Caligula, the people's favorite, was proclaimed emperor by the senate in DCCXC A.V.C. (37 AD). They annulled the will of the hated Tiberius and effectively disinherited Tiberius' son Gemellus, who would soon be killed by Caligula. The senators would live, though many did not, to regret this hasty choice.
